There is affordable housing around Nashville but there are also some high-price options. Cost of living is pretty close to any of the larger mid-west cities. I moved to Nashville from Columbus, Ohio, and found that housing was a little more but gas is less, so it evened out. Nashville is a big technology and health-care area (forget Music City, it's now Healthcare City!) so if you are looking for work in either of those, you can find a job easily. Public transportation is a nightmare, so plan on either living close to where you work or having to have a car.
