Does Ottawa have a good IT job market?

I’m an IT professional so I’m looking for a city to settle with a less competitive IT job market. Is Ottawa overflowing with IT guys or will my skills be in high demand?

Ottawa has been a good home for High Tech in the from last few decade especially for Telecommunication and Embedded system, and recently attracted e-commerce company as well as mobile application/services company.

I often find the term "IT professional" is too broad (from fixing PC to developing hardware, to writing mobile application, to administrate server system, to testing HW/SW).

Having said that, I find there is a little shift to software (especially application level software), written in JAVA/JS/C#. There are still many opportunity in system level software engineering written in C/C++ from telecom industry.

If your "IT profession" is software oriented I would say it is easy to find a new opportunity, and in high demand.

You've got two good answers there, probably more qualified than mine; I don't work in IT but I do work with many IT providers.

I'd add another resource to your list. Peter's Jobs site, (I'm not that Peter), is an excellent tool for any job search. You can sign up for a free 4-week trial and see the types of jobs that are posted for your skill set.

Reddit's Canada subreddit can give you lots of insight into both the immigration process and what to expect if you do decide to make the move.
