How dog-friendly is Vienna?

My dogs have always been a big part of my life. Right now I have an Alaskan Malamute, which is related to a Husky, and a German Shepherd-Husky mix, so they’re both quite large and need lots of exercise to keep them from eating my apartment. Will I be able to find lots of outdoor space to exercise my dogs in and will I have options for dog-friendly businesses, like cafes and bars? And how dog-friendly is public transit?

Vienna has many facilities for the dog owner. Many shops will have a "Hundparkplatz" outside... a small hook or two to tie your dog's leash to while you shop. Most parks will have a "Hundzone": a fenced-in off-leash area for dogs to play and meet. Public transit is dog-friendly, but you will be expected to keep your large dogs on a leash and to have their mouth covered with a "Beißkorb" (dog muzzle), which older dogs may have a hard time getting used to.

Now that you have some relevant terms you should have no problem googling for more information (for example Hundzones should be marked on the official City of Vienna online map at wien.gv.at).

Vienna is also very green; parks are essentially everywhere I think they even have a law that a certain percent of the city has to be park-area. There's even a national park that starts right in the city, your dogs would love it!
