How expensive is it to have a car in Berlin?

Good day,

Please help to find information about car taxes, insurance.
For example I want to buy a Ford focus 1.8 TDI 2008 year of manufacture.
Which taxes I'll pay (road tax for example) and how much the insurance will cost?

For a new car it's pretty new. For 2008 TDi however, you'll pay quite a lot of road tax and insurance, because it's a relatively old car with a large, stinky diesel.

Example:

• Skoda Fabia 1.2 2014: 36€ road tax / year + 300€ insurance
• Mazda 323F 2004 2.0 TDi: 300€ road tax + 600€ insurance.

1) Car tax calculator, as Mariusz mentioned, depends on engine type (diesel car is times more expensive than petrol car), age of the car etc:

2) Insurance calculator, it depends heavily on drivers past (age, when got licence, previously insured cars in Germany etc). It's pretty expensive first years but then gets cheaper over time:

3) Technical inspection, for newer cars every 3 years, older every second year.

4) There's no road tax currently in Germany for personal cars.

To my knowledge there's nothing else mandatory.
