How is the math living costs x salary in Bangalore?

Hi,

I'm currently studying a job opportunity in Bengaluru (or Bangalore) and have no idea of costs of living and how much to ask for as my salary.

Can someone help me? I'm not a very party person, but I would like to live well, have a cozy and nice place to myself, go to the gym and to be able to save some money or to travel occasionally.

Bangalore is quite a diversified city in terms of expenditures, one can easily survive on a monthly salary of INR 30k. Given your preferences, you'd be spending most of your salary on real estate. A cozy and nice place to yourself would cost you in between 20k and 40k depending on neighborhood and other tangible facilities. I'd recommend a proper gated society with most of the recreational facilities. Please keep in mind that you might need to provide 10 months rent in advance to the owner as a security deposit. I know it sucks but sometimes it is unavoidable. You may be charged for the broker fees which typically is a month's rent. Make sure, you have a nice joining bonus to cover these.

Apart from accommodation, fooding is quite cheap compared to Brazil. You'd be able to have a quality 3-course meal for INR 500 in a nice restaurant. You'd find groceries quite cheaper as well. Maid service in Bangalore is easily available as well, it might cost you around 3-4k per month which would include cooking and cleaning.

Plenty of fitness options in Bangalore. A quite new and better option would be cult-fit which provides membership for regular gym, swimming, yoga and what not. Also, training in specific fields is available for quite a reasonable price.

Transportation might worry you a bit because of longer wait or slow moving traffic in some areas. Well connected by bus and some parts by metro. Cab services like Uber and Ola are well scattered around the city and available 24x7 at a very reasonable price. Also, a recommendation to not get fooled by local Taxis and Autorickshaws, it's not just for new person in the city, they normally do argue for higher prices so be very careful in case you need to take this option. Otherwise, cab on app is the best option.

Gym - INR 3000/month https://www.cultfit.in/ (you can find cheaper ones, but this one is the most customer friendly and gives you access to all of their locations and unlimited slots)

Party - INR 120 for a beer at a pub. Craft beer more expensive. A hard core party night will cut your wallet by around INR 2000.

Accommodation - INR 15000/month will get you a room. Again, this is where you can live comfortably in a nice house, with a nice locality. Add INR 1500/month to electricty, water expenses etc. If this is your first time in India, then you can afford a house help who can come clean (INR 1500/month) and cook (INR 2000/month) at your house. Try nobroker.in or nestaway.com for houses.. the latter especially is good because you can land here, get a standard house to stay in and then search for the ideal place. Or maybe even couchsurfing for a few early days.

Travel - check uber for rates

Overall - you can survive in 30000/month - live a "college dorm" ramen noodle life. Live a very comfortable life (with very few savings but) in 50000/month. Rest all is cream on the cake, and gives you money to save, drink at starbucks vs local street stall, travel around,

It would have been great to know if you had a number in mind but I will anyways simplify things for you.

If you plan to be with your family, obviously things will be different.

A good 2bhk or 3bhk (bed-room-kitchen) will cost about 30000-40000 Rupees in a nice locality. This is for a family. If you plan to share, you can divide it by 2/3, so your cost will be 12000-20000Rs.

Groceries and travel (by ola cabs) would cost you 15000-20000 p.m (10k + 5k) assuming you don't share a cab.

Utilities would cost you 6-8k p.m including everything under the sun.

If you keep a maid for cleaning up, that would cost you about 5-10k for an educated help.

Travel and miscellaneous cost could be 5-10k.

Essentially, you need a salary of in the range of 7-8 Lakhs worst case to 10-12 Lakh Indian rupees.

I have lived in the US for 3 years, so all the estimates are for a comparable life style. One hint would be to find accommodation near work.

I could have predicted better if I knew your career stage.
