You wanna target minimum around $2k, pref $3k/mnth. This is without a car or insurance. Its an expensive place.

Nomad List's estimate is on the high side $4k-5k/mnth but still if you want to live like an American does on $2k, that same life costs 2-3x the cost in Australia.

If you´re going to be sharing a room (short term rental are much more expensive)
think about:
200$ per week in rental, 100$pw supermarket, 20-30$ per meal outside home, 20-40$ pw in public transport.

Minimum wage I think is 17$/hour but I think you´re safe to expect at least 20$/h for unqualified jobs. If you're on a students visa or work holiday visa you can work max 20h pw so that's 400$. It's doable. There are tons of people on those visas around here and they even save money.

I would absolutely suggest AUD$3000-$5000 per month depending on how well you would like to live and perhaps travel. If you want to live IN Sydney in a share house but in your own room this is $250-$350 per week. Sharing a room with another person would be cheaper.

Hi, I'd also recommend you'd want to calculate about $2,000 per month as a minimum. The main cost will be rent. You will probably find a lower rent further out in the suburbs but your transport costs will go up.
