How safe is Bangalore for women?

I am moving to Bangalore for a 11 month assignment with my family. I will be working and my wife will have plenty of spare time. You hear a lot of bad things about women safety in India but I hear Bangalore is quite different in that regard. Can anyone elaborate what are the main concerns, if any, for women going about their daily lives in the city?

I am not a woman but have lived in Bangalore for 6+ years.It can easily be regarded as the safest metropolitan city in India only after Chennai. There are also a fairly large amount of women and men who are not of Indian descent living in Bangalore around the central area . Of course when in Rome we do as Romans do so unfortunately she probably won't be able to do as she pleases like in your home country but it will be close if she is a little bit carefull.Bangalore or Bengaluru (as it is known now ) is a pretty interesting city to stay in and I wish you a have a great time here !

Hello. Welcome to Bangalore, I'm sure you'll love your stay here. You should be more worried about the traffic than women's safety. I'm not downplaying it or saying it isn't important, I'm simply trying to bring in a different perspective. Bangalore, like most cities, is safe enough for women. The usual methods and thought processes that's applied back home regarding safety should suffice here in Bangalore as well. There are some instances, but I would wager that such instances happen everywhere. Our media likes sensationalistic views and news. The biggest news that we hear from Europe over here these days is ISIS and migrants. But I'm sure that's not the ground reality. Same case in here.

Don't worry. Practice saying namaste and you'll bowl over the locals and win their hearts.

I may not be the best person to answer this, being a man, but I've lived in Bangalore for 6 years, and in my 3rd person perspective on this, Bangalore (and southern India in general) is much safer than the infamous parts of the country, and doesn't feature as often in reports of sexual assault.

In recent years, there have been a few violent street robberies, though mostly of men, in some parts of the city.

The best precaution is to avoid being alone in deserted and unfamiliar areas.

I recommend reading a few news reports of crime in the city to get an idea. Bangalore Mirror could be a good resource. Such incidents are relatively infrequent though.

Overall, crime is hardly a concern while living in the city. People love the food and pubs, and hate the traffic.

Crimes happen in dark and dingy places, so it's better to avoid here are some guidelines
1. Never travel alone during night, tag along with a local if you have to (this depends on locality)
2. I would avoid public transportation because there will be a lot of people, take a uber always have a mobile with active internet connection.
3. Some indians are very curious so there might stare when they see a foreigner but since bangalore is global IT hub there are lot of foreigner so you might not face this issue.
4. In public places people might approach you to take a selfie this might disturb your privacy.
5. One more thing to add is there is fleet of police patrol cars so if you are in trouble you might get help quickly
I would like to finish this off with positive's
1. India is diverse you will experience what humanity is very closely, you will see extreme acts of kindness, hospitality and in next moment you might witness the opposite, you might witness people of all faiths celebrating all festival and you will get dragged into celebrations and will not feel left out it will be a experience you will not forget
2.There are many places for treks, sightseeing for your weekend
3. And you wont't have any problems communicating with locals 9 out 10 know english

Bangalore is pretty safe for women. There is a special police 24/7 women call center and Quick response teams. India is a large country with states the same size as European countries. There are isolated incidents of harassment and mugging but such incidents are not isolated to Bangalore. You are more likely to be a victim of Mugging and Robbery in Paris than most Indian cities.
Make friends with Indian people, try local cuisine and travel around in a safe manner and you will truly enjoy the good things that bangalore has to offer.
Don't believe what the media shows you. They exaggerate isolated incidents at the behest of their political sponsors. Do let me know if you need any more details or help with respect to getting around Bangalore.

It's as safe as any other metropolitan city across the world. You're free to do whatever you want, go wherever you want, as long as it doesn't break any rules.

Bangalore, by its heritage is highly respectful of women, and you'll see them being given preferential treatment in all modes of public transport and also spoken to with high respect.

As a general rule, do not venture into lonely places in the night alone and there should be nothing that can go wrong.

Hi there. I've lived in bangalore for a few years now and I know a lot of people who've spent their whole lives here, especially women. It's right to say that bangalore is safer than most metropolitan cities in India but then again how safe is it, is the question.

Bangalore city is very safe during the day however I can't say the same during the night. Areas like Indiranagar, koramangala, Btm are pretty safe at night but I'd advise not to risk it. Get your work done by the day and if you're going out at night then make sure you're back by 1-2am. Always keep company. Always. (hit me up for any further questions)
