How safe is Medellín?

I see that there's a lot of different information online and I don't know what's the current situation right now.

As a whole it's significantly less dangerous than Chicago, New Orleans and Detroit. The safer areas, such as El Poblado, Envigado and Laureles are very safe.

I stay in Envigado, and I'm mostly here and in El Poblado, and I have not once felt unsafe.

There are of course areas you'd want to avoid, like is the case in most big cities.

How is it compared to Bogota? Also what about safety as a super tall blond woman? I speak Spanish, have traveled the world and lived in Latin countries, but know that I'll stand out in Colombia more than say Buenos Aires (which doesn't help as a foreigner).

I haven’t lived in Bogota, but I’m pretty sure you’ll be as safe or safer in Medellín. Even if you’re tall and blond. I’m staying in Quito now, and I felt a lot safer in Medellín (not that I feel particularly unsafe here). For what it’s worth, my blond female friends didn’t have any issues in Medellín either…
