Is it easy to find jobs/friends/etc without good German?

For those who barely speak German, how easy is it to find a job (software) and local or expat friends ? I read in some places that locals were not very warm ?

As far as I know for jobs, most of them in Vienna require some sort of German skills. There are of course some exceptions, but in my opinion it could be tuff to find something right away without any German skills at all. For making friends I don't think you will have many problems if you just speak English. As Viennese I can say it's true that there are some people here, who seem to be rather cold, but there are also many openminded and friendly people.

Everyone speaks english, so living in Vienna as an expat is no problem. Btw there are 400k expats here...
Finding a job with zero German knowledge, outside of international organizations, is not obvious. Either you have skills in high demand, you look at a handful of startups that work in English, find an international job at a larger firm, or it's going to be uphill.
