Is Thessaloniki safe?

As any large city I'm sure Thessaloniki has both safe and less safe areas... But are there certain neighborhoods to avoid at night or in general? And does the city as a whole feel safe to walk around at night as a woman walking alone?

I d say overall it is quite safe. If you stick to the city center you can avoid areas like the upper part of Aristotel's Squere (above Egnatia str.), or some parts of Navarinou Square. I know some neighbourhoods in the West are notorious for crime, drug related activities like the area around the Railway Station, or The main bus station (KTEL), or areas like Dendropotamos. Also it might not be the best idea to walk at night throughout the Aristotel University campus.
But again, overall I think its quite safe in most parts of it. Even late at night you can find people walking which is always good.

Generally thessaloniki is a safe city.. i don't know the place you will stay at night but i imagine you will stay at the centre..Feel free to walk by foot the night especially in friday and saturday because there will be many people around you. I suggest to avoid the western thessaloniki. You will be safe as long as you stay in centre

Thessaloniki is a very safe city. Much more safer than Athens. The city centre is alive and full of young people all day. All the shopping centre bars caffes and restaurants are there. And thats why you can walk even late at night without a problem.
The only area that it is good to avoid is in Vardaris area late at night. But it is little outside of the city centre.
You wont have a problem at all.

walking by yourself in the city center is perfectly safe at any time of the day or night. In general, cafes and bars stay open through the night, which means there is always people around. Residential areas won't be busy at night, but they're still safe.

I think it's safe but you must avoid some places in the center of town
and some at the suburbs.
For a woman walking alone is safe in well lightened streets and crowded.
There are also areas that are complitely safe.

I am Alkis from Thessaloniki. It s my home city for 24 years I can tell for sure that our city is really safe and comforting and yes you can wander around as a woman alone, however, as in any city I cannot guarantee you that walking alone at 2 am noone will tease you and I wouldn t exclude a worst-case senario that somebody would try to rob you, but the possibilities of that are the same with an average urban centre and you have to be really unlucky to bump into something like this.
Other than that, know this Thessaloniki if I could divide Thessaloniki into three parts, thosw would be the city centre, which is the most popular, crowded,attractive, glamorous of all. The west part ( Evosmos, Stavroupoli, Neapoli, Ampelokipoi Ilioupoli) which is in general the most under-privileged part with most migrants and people of other ethnicities living there, while the transportation is not as good as the rest of the city and the east part, which is the most privileged,wealthier one clearly better at all levels from the west part and almost everyone who comes in Thessaloniki for a while either for renting or a hotel lives there after the city centre since its the most expensive of all. Now, if in the east part there are also regions different from each other but it depends on what you are asking for renting, staying for a week, living for more than a semester. Thessaloniki is really safe all times of the day. You don't have to worry about this issue in general.

No, absolutely not. My grandmother was mugged there several years ago and she suffered broken ribs and a concussion. My parents' hotel room in Thessaloniki was burglarized earlier this year.

Greece has become very unsafe in general due to the economic problems the past few years. Do not listen to the Greek nationals above. A lot of Greeks are filled with national pride which prevents them for acknowledging their countrys problems.

Thessaloniki is regarded as a safe place and there is only a low level of crime within the city.
