Hi,
I am curious how difficult it is to find a job as a foreigner. Is there some sort of unofficial hidden discrimination? Do employers prefer locals over foreigners even if they have approximately the same level of education, work experience, etc etc?
Thanks!
a very open question. Generally you will need a work Visa/permit. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/work.asp?_ga=2.151023803.365879267.1527787371-1111192825.1524684918
There are various programs for students, skilled workers etc. You can see what you are eligible for here:https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/come-canada-tool.html
for example if you are a UK/US/SA (seem to be popular) trained doctor, who is fluent in French and English, you would score a lot of points on the Express Entry ranking system and would have a very good chance of an expedited approval.
We actually have a talent shortage in Vancouver because if the skyrocketing housing costs combined with lower wages. If you have a skill and some experience (and a place to live!), you'll be fine no matter what your background.
Assuming you have the correct working permit, and that your profession is not one that requires Canadian licensing (Law, Medicine), foreigners should't really find problems. If anything, say you speak an Asian language, this might open up some added job options.
