Kraków: any downside?

I'm visiting Kraków at the moment and aside from a few frustrations with a particular internet service provider (and I should mention that I'm located just outside of the city) this city is about as close to perfect as I've ever experienced in terms of cost of living and quality of life. The language is a bit tough, but a lot of people speak English here anyway. Is there anything I should know before I take up semi-permanent residence here?

Hi Allen, not sure if you're question is still actual, hope yes.
I would suggest you make sure that whatever you decide to do in Kraków (job, freelance, starting up, etc), you're convinced of that and make some investigations about the market. There's a lot to explore here, so for sure you'll find your way.
Social life is sweet too.
I recommend living in the city, Kazimierz for example. It's a whole experience living in this part of the city.

Ah yes, and there's also a problem with air pollution, especially in winter. Krakow is one of the worst cities in Poland as far as smog is concerned. So if you of any of your relatives have asthma or other health issues that might be affected by smog, that might be a problem.

I'd advise to read the article below. It was when I realised that Poland isn't really a country aligned with my values. It's not very tolerant, it's rather xenophobic, and it's very, very catholic. Much too catholic for my taste.

Thank you for your feedback. My partner and I have rented an apartment closer to the center and it is terrific thus far. Others have advised me similarly about the pros and cons of living here, and so far I've found I can live with all of this although I am a bit concerned about the smog, much of which I'm told is due to people burning coal during the winter. Do people wear masks?
