Should I stay in the US or Move to Naples?

Hello I am seriously wanting to move to Naples Italy this is where my grandmother is from, and when I went there recently in 2015 to get married, I felt that my heart belonged there. I am not sure about jobs and the economy. My husband is a sous chef here in the US. What does Naples require to be a Sous Chef?

Hi Erica.

Naples it's the most beautiful place on earth, you've seen it. The life is quite inexpensive, the food is sublime, inhabitant are extremely warm-hearted (not all of them, like in every other part of the world, that should be clear). There are a lot of problems, too, I guess you're aware of them. Economy and job market is stagnating since 40 years, political (or not) corruption it's a big issue, and you have to be prepared to fight for a lot of rights that in the rest of the occidental world are so obviously guaranteed that people forget to have them.

I think that if you're really -really - open minded, know well language and how to treat people, and ready to stand against a sea of minor troubles, you'll live here the best part of your life. Otherwise it could be a hell.

Tourism and catering are the only engines that move the economy in Naples, so - today - there is space in the market for your husband, I guess, but that's not my field.

The only thing that i know is that the Italian couisine overseas it's someting totally different from the italian couisin in Italy, and Naples it's the capital of it. So, pay attention to this.

If there's one thing that never fails in Naples, this is food and eating. That's why i thinl your husband may have difficulty in finding a job, BUT just because i think he can't speak italian.
About you, since you're an english speaker, you could give private lesson to children or to anyone who needs to improve his english.
Naples is precious, it's pretty and enchanting, but living here is not easy, so be sure!

Rather then being just a regular city I think it's an experience to live and you can enjoy it if you're open minded, as Gianluca was pointing out. Sure it's not the easiest city to move to but at the end of the end, the pros are far more then the cons!

The city itself it's quite cheap so you can afford a good quality of life with a normal italian wage. People are very welcoming and you breathe art throughout all the city. Food is awesome and the surrounding range from little islands to mountains - great for outodoor weekends.

As a plus there's a huge American community, especially for NATO employees, so you can surely try to ask to American expats already living in the area!
