What is a comfortable salary in Dusseldorf?

I'm considering relocating to Dusseldorf from Denver CO. My wife and I have a 2yr old that she stays home with and obviously wants to keep doing that. With all of that said I'm having a difficult time gauging how much money we'll need every month to maintain a similar lifestyle where we can still eat out a couple times a week, travel and save for the future.

Any thoughts or perspective on how much we'd need monthly or annually to have a comfortable life?

If you take your current salary in USD and divide it by 2 then the result just as number is the amount in EUR which would allow for a similar lifestyle regarding typical expenses and including the rent or mortgage. Except for housing, all expenses in large German cities like Düsseldorf are almost the same as in expensive US cities like Denver, Boston or Los Angeles. Housing is about 4 times cheaper than compared to these 3 US cities. If you live in the downtown area in Düsseldorf you don't even need a car so additional savings are possible.
