What's average rent in Floripa in the island area?

Hi,
I'm from Russia and consider spending a few months in Floripa.
If I rent a studio or 1 room apartment in the island area, what would be the average cost?

You can find a decent apartment here, in a good area, by around R$ 900,00 and R$ 1100,00 monthly. But usually the real state agents are really bureaucratic, imposes a number of restrictions, and demand a big range of documents to aprove the renting. So, be aware that renting an apartment could turn into a challenge. For short term rental, Airbnb could be a good option, because you will know the exact cost in advance. Another avaible option is rent straight from the owner, a common way too. You could find some options at http://sc.olx.com.br/florianopolis-e-regiao/imoveis/aluguel, this is a ad site much used here.

Actually the "island area" of Florianópolis consists of several individual districts/neighborhoods, some of the main ones are:
1. City center (Centro);
2. Lagoa da Conceição;
3. Itacorubi;
4. Canasvieiras;
5. Jurerê;

Every district has it's own style and benefits. Many of these places can be rather remote and public transport can be a bit limited.

Also the prices can vary significantly between each district, so maybe you can give some more information about what you are looking for? Like "quick access to the best beaches for surfing", or "studying at UFSC", or "doing some remote work in a co-working", etc.

If you only plan on staying for a few months, probably you will be limited to renting through Airbnb, being that normal rentals are mostly on a yearly basis and without furniture.

There are also some hostels/hotels that have individual rooms.

It really depends on the location, the proximity with the university, central area or to the beaches.

That being said, I'd say that for a very good 1 room apartment it would be around 1500 - 2000 BRL per month (all costs). It can get a lot cheaper, of course!

Michiel, public transport doesn't really matter as I work online.
Where would I feel safe, won't overpay and have a chance to get to the decent beach?

Recently I have moved with a friend to an apt in Itacorubi.
It is a pretty nice place, and we share a R$2000/month rent, and its quite complete, with open and heated pools.
I believe you could find similar deals.

Hi Maxim,

Most foreigners to Brazil/Floripa (me included, I'm dutch, but lived in Floripa for 7 years) simply love Lagoa da Conceição. It has a very central position on the island, has enough infrastructure to simply get what you need and it's right next to the beautiful lake/lagoon which is great for walking, kite-/windsurfing, etc. Also from there you can easily get to Joaquina beach (it's a great walk through the dunes), "Praia Mole" and "Barra da Lagoa", each with it's own unique atmosphere.

Be aware that Lagoa da Conceição is divided in the areas:
- Centrinho da Lagoa;
- Porto da Lagoa;
- Canto da Lagoa.

You'll probably want to stay in the first one, where you have everything within walking distance, for the other areas you'd probably need a car, or at least a bike. It's definitely not the cheapest area, but I think it's well worth the money, you will save on transport costs and will get the best experience.

For public transportation info I think Moovit is the best app. Also I believe they just started Uber in Floripa, which might even be cheaper than public transport in some cases (especially when travelling with friends).
