What's the lower cost alternative to Santiago in Chile?

Hi,
Can anyone recommend some Chilean city which would be a lower cost alternative to Santiago?
That needs to have a good connection to Saintiago (train or bus), be big enough to have some vibe and ideally located on the coast with great ceviches:)

unfortunately, Santiago is the cheapest city in Chile,
maybe you could get some accommodation for a better price in Santiago's bordering towns, though the rent could be lower, other expenses will be higher.

Hi,
Any southern city of Chile has lower costs than Santiago. Valdivia, Puerto Montt, Punta Arenas, Chillán, Concepción, among others, are good alternatives.

The northern part of the country is more expensive than Santiago because most of the mining companies and workers live there.

If Santiago is the cheapest city in Chile, that's awesome!
I just thought the capital would be double cost like in Russia.
Viña del Mar also looks nice because of the beach.

If you intend to work in Santiago, the cheapest option is probably to live in Santiago itself. Depending on the neighbourhood you can find cheap places to live (and some expensive ones too), while still being connected to the city transport.

If you look for a city in the coast, both Viña del Mar and Valparaíso are great cities with their own vibe each. Valparaíso is the port so no beaches there, though connectivity to Viña del Mar is very speedy. However, from both of these cities you would have a 1:30hr bus ride to Santiago (departing every 15min), which might become quite tiring after a while if done everyday.

Hi. No it's not the cheapest. It's the capital and it has the highest rent rates of the whole country. I think "viña del mar" is what you're looking for. It's 2 hours away from santiago, has cheaper food & rent, it's big enough for having all what you might need, there's plenty of coast and beaches, nice weather, and has the better choice for living according to TripAdvisor (as i recall). Concepción and La Serena seem good alternatives too, but 500km away to the south and north respectively, with different climate conditions.

Ok thats so noy like tgis. Santiaho is by fat the more expensive city in chile. I will recomend you for sure viña del mar! Very close to santiago by bus. Its a great city with lots of interesting stuff to do the whole year and also you got valparaiso next to it which is amazing.
