Which car service do you use?

I landed in Barcelona, opened the Uber app and was surprised to see none are are around. I guess Barcelona is one of the places where the car sharing regulation has not been sorted out?

Which apps are the local alternatives for Uber/Lyft-like experience for ordering a car? And if they get you a regular taxi, anything to keep in mind, companies to prefer/avoid...?

There is no uber in Spain. Only option is a taxi or public transport

Unfortunately, Uber/Lyft are banned here due the taxi lobby. And we don't have any local service like this

The best way to move around are:
- Public Transportation (metro): is the fastest and most convenient way to move around the city. Is extremely punctual and very regular (every 2-3min you have a train). Buy the T-10 (10€ 10 travels).
- Taxi: use MyTaxi to request one. They are all very secure, and there's no problems with them (as far as I know).
Other ways to move around are: rent a bike, or rent a scooter.

Let me know if you need any other tip from Barcelona, I'm from here and I know good places to eat/drink as well

Hi, there is just one taxi company, they are all the same prices.
I can only recommend one thing if you pick a cab. If you want to go to the station, airport, or places like this, do not tell the driver, look at google maps and ask for a direction near by, they got a 2€ plus for those. Also do not suggest to hurry, another 2€ plus, also extra bags, got plus per each...

Btw Barcelona have a great public transport, awesome subway. But the best of all is taking the regular train for cross the city, check Sants Estació - Clot, there is a line that crosses the city stright line, you can be from one side to another in less than 10 min ( same traject with sub its about 45 min ).

If you finally use the public transport check the bonuses, single tickets are really expensive, the t-10 its still expensive and its 50% less per traject than the single ticket. If you stay for one month at least I would recommend the 50/30 ( 50 uses in 30 days ), its the most common for +25 years old I think.

I use the mytaxi and hailo apps. They allow you to order a cab and pay by app. The price is the same as a normal taxi though.

This thread inspired me to sign up for hailo again. Last time I was locked out of signing up. There's lots of taxi stands around. The metro is your best beat in my experience of living here.

In reality, I did find that taxies were quite readily available at any time and I only really needed app ordering for once this week, on an empty evening street with no cars in sight.

One thing to add to the above information, though: almost every time there were issues with payment in taxis. Some drivers didn't want to accept bank cards, and others claimed they don't have change for larger Euro bills. So, be equipped with smaller notes and coins -- or use the apps just to streamline the payment, like @Jason_Rados said.
